Walled Gardens North Yorkshire

Walled Gardens we love them!

We all love to get out and about so why not change your routine and visit a Walled Garden? There are so many amazing Walled Gardens to visit across the UK it's difficult to chose which ones to visit.

Visiting a Walled Garden can provide so much inspiration it's hard to narrow down a shortlist so we will start with a number that we have visited recently. Oh and make sure to check out the local town near where these Walled gardens are there are some excellent foodie places to try! We will drop in a tip or two.

Ripley Castle and Gardens, Ripley, North Yorkshire: Ripley Castle is a Grade I listed 14th-century country house in Ripley, North Yorkshire, England, 3 miles north of Harrogate. It has a stunning lake and deer park. The Walled gardens contain herbaceous borders a kitchen garden with a collection of fruit trees, vegetables,  numerous herbs and spices. The highlight on our visit were the Hothouses containing tropical plants of all kinds. If this isn't enough to tempt you walk approx 1/2 a mile out of the grounds and get yourself the world famous Ripley Ice Cream it is not to be missed!

Helmsley Walled Gardens, Helmsley, North Yorkshire: Helmsley Walled Gardens is a place to relax and unwind, firstly it's one of the finest market towns in North Yorkshire in our view (maybe biased as we grew up near there)! The Walled gardens have apple orchards, glasshouses and stunning borders and if that's not enough to wet your appetitie for a vist it's located next to the ruins of Helmsley Castle. We would make a weekend of this trip not only for the Walled Gardens it has some excellent hotels in the town and an amazing place to indulge a little place called Mannion & Co trust us you will be glad we mentioned it.

Scampston Walled Garden, Malton, North Yorkshire: Scampston Walled Garden is an original kitchen garden situated within the grounds of 18th century Scampston Hall. The Walled Garden is a contemporary design and it feels right at home. These Walled Gardens are a must see if you are visiting the Malton area. If you are visiting Malton it is known as the 'Food Capital' of Yorkshire! The monthly Food Market is vibrant food market with numerous local food stalls! You won't be disappointed.

Please check the opening times prior to visiting, some sites may need pre-booking due to Covid-19.

Hopefully these help with your summer plans, we will continue to add some more content throughout the year of other Walled Gardens to visit! Oh and food places we love food!

All the best Urban Grow Team.
