Niwaki GR Pro Barracuda Clippers
Niwaki GR Pro Barracuda Clippers
Niwaki GR Pro Barracuda Clippers include the length and ‘clipability’ of Topiary Clippers combined with the strength of bypass Secateurs. Dream Team, or Jack of all trades?
They’re absolutely perfect for cutting back and reshaping old box topiary (box wood, as you know is hard stuff - its timber was traditionally used for printing blocks) and occupy that lovely place where you need a bit of clip AND a bit of clout, but inevitably they’re not as smooth as Topiary Clippers, nor as strong as Secateurs. Also pretty much perfect for cutting back tough herbaceous stuff at the end of year - but do watch out for stones and such when you’re working at ground level.

Care & maintenance
We’re constantly finding new ways to become more sustainable, so we only select products that are built to last. We recommend that you use your secateurs correctly to extend its lifespan.
Use it correctly:
- Japanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused
- Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges)
- Do not twist or apply uneven pressure
- Cut diagonally across branches (not straight across) so you cut along the fibres
- Pay attention to our maximum cut dimensions, and don’t overdo it (shears are not loppers)
- Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts
Keep it clean
- Remove leaf resin, rust and gunk with a Crean Mate and water
- Dry, wipe over with Camellia oil and store in a dry place
Keep it sharp
New tools won’t need sharpening for some time, but after a while you’ll notice them gradually lose their edge, especially if you’re box clipping (you need REALLY sharp blades to get a good finish with box). Use the Niwaki Sharpening Stones for best results (#1000 grit is best for general sharpening).
- Sharpen Secateurs every couple of weeks

Garden tree
Niwaki means garden tree. Not very exciting, but it implies far more than that. Japanese gardens are landscapes, microcosms of nature, and the trees are all shaped to fit into those landscapes - there’s an awful lot of artistry and cultural heritage in there too. .

Gardening is held in high-esteem in Japan, and the quality and thoughtful design of Niwaki secateurs, pruning saws, digging tools, shears etc reflect this. You won't be dissapointed.
