Every Traditional Sussex trug is handcrafted using locally sourced sweet chestnut and willow. Sweet chestnut poles are coppiced during winter before being split, seasoned, shaved, steamed and bent to create the handle and rim. The willow, often reclaimed from the cricket bat industry, is cut, shaved and soaked before being expertly woven into the frame. Finally, the chestnut straps are fitted in place of traditional feet, creating an exceptionally strong, lightweight trug built to withstand decades of everyday use.
